READ BUTTERFLY GUIDE NANCY WEISS’ ARTICLE “EXPLORING THE WORLD OF BUTTERFLIES” HERE

Join Master Naturalist and Tree Steward Nancy Weiss to learn about the great variety of butterflies we have here in Central Virginia. This instructional walk will be a circuit around the planned botanical garden site on a flat trail. Plan to observe both common butterflies like the Eastern Swallowtail and more unusual species.

ABOUT: Nancy started learning about butterflies by photographing them in her own yard and has seen more than 60 different species in Albemarle County. She leads the North American Butterfly Association survey here every July.

LOCATION: Walkers will assemble at the Melbourne Road entrance to the garden, near the intersection with the John W. Warner Parkway and across the street from Charlottesville High School’s stadium.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Bring binoculars, bug spray, and  enthusiasm
  • All ages are welcome
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
